Comparison between Mineralogical Properties of Oak Forest and Un-Cultivated Soils in Iraqi Kurdistan Region

Page No: 1-6

This study was conducted to identify the mineralogical properties of oak forest and uncultivated soils at 12 locations in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, which included (Brifca, Gara, and Matin) in Duhok governorate, (Awagrd, Bilah, and Malakan) in Erbil governorate, (Badawan, Bardanga, and Chwarta) in Sulaimani Governorate and (Bakhakon, Hawar, and Sartak) in Halabja governorate. Clay minerals were identified from X-ray diffraction data and peaks. Peak height is used as a rough indicator of the relative abundance of minerals. In general, the expansion of 14°A to 17°A in the ethylene glycol treatment was not detected because measuring started at 5θ so that’s why we cannot differentiate between Chlorite and Smectite in that treatment. Swelling chlorite was the dominant mineral in these soils. While the miner clay minerals at those locations were Kaolinite. Mica was identified at all locations, while the dominant type of mica in forest soils was Muscovite, which was obtained from 6 sites, and Mica Biotite was obtained from 4 sites. In uncultivated sites, both types of mica were recorded at 5 sites.

A same plasmatic protein has own autonomy depending of temperatures and pH values

Page No: 1-5

The same protein has coagulant or fibrinolytic activity depending on the pH or temperature value. The protein has coagulant action in low pH and temperature or fibrinolytic activity in high pH and temperature. A same protein has own autonomy to develop coagulant or lytic activity, depending of its environment. Many diseases may be explained by changes in the internal environments as pH and temperatures affecting the structure native of proteins. The biological activity of proteins depends on its three –dimensional structured which is derived by the folding of the linear amino acid polymer synthesized on ribosome. Since the magnitude of these forces is influenced by environmental conditions, a protein stability depends of factors that temperature, pressure, pH, extraneous agents and ionic strength. The fold of Proteins is subject its environment. The structural plasticity is necessary for the catalytic activities of ordered proteins, and the amino acid drive different responses to changes in their environment. The one that with little difference in the range of pH and temperature, a same protein can behave of different function without becoming denaturalized would help to understand the adaptation that undergoes these macromolecules to the environment changes.

Effect of gromor Sulphur Bentonite sulphur Pastilles on Yield and Nutrient uptake by hybrid rice - potato- green gram Cropping System in an Inceptisol

Page No: 1-9

A field experiment was conducted in a medium land site (Inceptisol) of Central Research Station, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, India during 2006-09 in order to study the effect of gromor bentonite S pastilles and gypsum on yield and nutrient uptake by hybrid rice-potato-green gram cropping system. Application of S significantly increased the grain and straw yield, nutrient uptake by hybrid rice-potato-green gram cropping system. A dose of 60 kg S ha-1 through S-bentonite pastilles increased the yield of hybrid rice, potato and green gram over control by 34, 21 and 18 per cent, respectively. Uptake of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu by hybrid rice-potato-green gram system were increased significantly in S-treated soil. A dose of 60 kg S ha-1 was ideal for hybrid rice and 40 kg S ha-1 for potato. Among the three sources, gromor bentonite S pastille was found to be best source of S because of high concentration, slow release and minimum leaching loss.

Perception of parents towards matriculation schools in Sivakasi

Page No: 1-14

According to the changes in parents attitude towards the school are following different types of syllabuses, namely, State board, CBSE, Matriculation and Delhi board. They are also following various types of teaching techniques using overhead projector, group discussion charts, models etc., They are more popularly used teaching aids in institution following, matriculation and CBSE syllabus. This helps the students to shine in their subjects. The teaching methods and curriculum are getting more attention in private schools. The parents are preferring matriculation and CBSE syllabi which have more subjects and more practical with computer knowledge. The objectives of the present study is to know the perception of parents towards matriculation schools. It is found that there is no significant association between socio economic profile of the respondents and their level of perception towards matriculation schools.

Salt iodization and thyroid function of pregnant women in early pregnancy in Owerri-southeast Nigeria

Page No: 1-9

Studies have shown that one of the greatest challenges in the global fight to eliminate IDD is ensuring sustainability of effective iodization programs. Regular assessment of iodine status of the most vulnerable population and monitoring the progress of salt iodization programs are cornerstones of IDD control strategy. This study measured the iodine content of common table salts sold to the population studied and assessed the thyroid activity and urinary iodine concentration of pregnant women in their first trimester of Pregnancy. The results of the iodine content of the common table salts showed that all the salt sampled from the markets and shops contained iodine at concentration range of 12.7±0.60 mg/kg – 74.1±4.00 mg/kg. Majority of common salts sampled met the required iodine content. Biochemical assessment showed that the median serum concentrations of TSH, T4, T3 and Urinary Iodine excretion were 1.35 µIU/ml, 10.45 µg/dl, 189.6ng/dl and 175.6µg/l respectively. These values indicated optimal iodine nutrition and healthy thyroid status.

The reciprocal effects of self-concept and academic achievement scores among learners with visual impairment in primary schools, Kenya

Page No: 1-7

Self-concept is one of the most popular ideas in psychological literature. Unfortunately, self-concept is also illusive and often poorly defined construct. Terms such as self-concept, self-esteem, self-worth, self-acceptance are often used interchangeably and inconsistently, when they may relate to different ideas about how people view themselves. The purpose of this study was therefore to determine if there were gender differences in self-concept and academic achievement among visually impaired pupils in Kenya. The population of the study was 291 visually impaired pupils. A sample of 262 respondents was drawn from the population by stratified random sampling technique based on their visual acuity. (189 partially sighted and 73 totally blind). Two instruments were used in this study: Pupils’ self-concept and academic achievement tests. Data analysis was done at p≤0.05 level of significance. The t test was used to test the relationship between self-concept and achievement. The data was analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) structure. The study established that there was indeed a relationship in self-concept and academic achievement among visually impaired pupils in Kenya. The study therefore recommended that the lower self-concept observed among totally blind pupils should be enhanced by giving counseling and early intervention to those group of pupils with a view to helping them accept their disability.
