Abdominal pregnancy still represents an enigma because of the diagnostic conundrum precluding early intervention. Newer diagnostic techniques, especially Magnetic Resonance Imaging which removes much of the confusion surrounding abdominal pregnancy, are yet to be readily available in developing economies. The really vexed issue surrounding advanced abdominal pregnancy revolves around the best way to deal with the placenta which could partially or totally separate anytime before term leading to torrential haemorrhage and increased maternal morbidity and mortality. Case report presented is the adjunctive use of methotrexate to aid the autolysis of the placenta left in situ after laparotomy in a 22-year old Nigerial nullipara with advanced abdominal pregnancy. Methotrexate, by aiding in the earlier involution of the placenta, may be important in improving the rate of early recovery of patients and reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with advanced abdominal pregnancy.

The Strychnos innocua (monkey orange) fruits were randomly collected from various locations in Zuru town of Kebbi State, Nigeria. The seeds of mature fruits were separated manually from the pulp and analysed for proximate, minerals, anti-nutritional compositions and physico-chemical analysis. The results showed that, the seed on dry weight basis (DW) contained crude protein (9.36±0.29%), crude lipid (25.0±0.82%), ash (6.0± 0.14%), available carbohydrates (56.31± 0.50%) and calorific value (487.67± 67.55 kcal/100g). The mineral elements (mg/100g DW) analysed showed that, the seed is rich in potassium (383.33±12.47), sodium (203.33±20.55), magnesium (23.67±1.25), iron (5.97 ±0.05), zinc (21.47±0.05), and manganese (3.67±0.05 ). Results of anti-nutritional analysis in the samples indicates high content of total oxalate (26.25±5.30mg/100gDW) and phytic acid (858.95±13.14mg/100gDW) respectively. With corresponding low concentration of cyanogenic glycosides, nitrate and saponins. Prediction of minerals bioavailability indicated that calcium and iron are not bioavailable due to oxalate and phytate content of the fruit. The oil had Saponification, Iodine, acid and Peroxide value of 151.20±0.16mgKOH/g oil, 14.53±0.06g/100g, 14.55±0.26mgKOH/g oil and 8.06±0.49meq/kg oil respectively.

A field study to evaluate the bio-economic assessment of sunflower-mungbean intercropping system at different planting geometry was carried out at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during spring season 2009. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with factorial arrangement having three replications. Sunflower hybrid (Hysun 33) and mungbean variety Azri-2006 was sown. The experiment was comprising treatment having factor A: planting geometry; P1(70cm single row planting ),P2(105/35 cm spaced paired row planting ), P3 (175/35 cm four row planting) and factor B; intercropping I1( sunflower alone),I2 ( sunflower + mungbean. All the growth and yield components were significantly affected by the varying planting patterns and intercropping. Maximum value of achene yield (2891 kg ha-1) in case of intercropping treatments was obtained in the alone sowing of sunflower and in case of planting geometries maximum achene yield (3002 kg ha-1) was obtained in the treatment when sunflower was sown at 175/35 cm four rows apart sowing. The interactive effect of different planting patterns and intercropping show that maximum achene yield (3128 kg ha-1) was obtained in case of P3I2.The maximum net benefit of Rs. 95995 (1130$) was obtained from the plots in which sunflower was sown at 175/35 cm four rows apart (P3I2 ).

Effect of salicylic acid on soluble sugars, proline and protein patterns of shara (Plectranthus tenuiflorus) plants grown under water stress conditions

Experiments were conducted to study the effect of 0.5 mM salicylic acid (SA) on growth, osmoregulating solutes (proline and soluble sugars), and protein patterns of Shara (Plectranthus tenuiflorus ) plants grown under different levels of irrigation water (100, 80, 60 and 40% of the field capacity, FC). Water stress, particularly at 40% FC, decreased fresh and dry weights in the absence of SA. Values of, sugars and proteins, were decreased by severe water stress while SA treatments improved these values. Proline content increased under water stress. The electrophoresis studies showed that some new protein bands were observed propaply to increase plant tolerance against water stress effect.

Lake Patzcuaro extinction is being caused by the prevalent hillslope agricultural system. Conservation tillage is an alternative to reduce erosion and runoff in hillslope agriculture. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that conservation tillage reduces runoff and soil losses, as well as identify erodability and infiltration parameters under rainfall simulation. Simulation was carried out in Patzcuaro lake watershed. Rainfall simulation was performed in two runoff plots, conservation tillage (CT) and conventional tillage (TT) under dry and wet soil conditions. Rill (Kr), interill erosionability (Ki), shear () and critic shear stress (c), and hydraulic conductivity (Ks) were computed for the two treatments. Results indicated that erosion parameters are directly related to erosion susceptibility, TT was higher susceptibility (Ki= 1,262,608 kg s m-4; Kr= 0.08 sm-1; c=1.3 Pa) than CT (Ki= 2,552 kg s m-4; Kr= 0.0002 sm-1; c=2.1 Pa). Hydraulic conductivity was higher in CT Ks=82.8 (dry), and Ks=64.4 mm/h (wet), than TT 48.6 (dry) and 55.2 mm/h (wet).
